Spinal Decompression Therapy

What Is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy is FDA cleared and has a high success rate for pain associated with herniated or bulging discs... even after failed surgery! It is a non-surgical, traction based therapy for the relief of back and leg pain or neck and arm pain. During this procedure, by cycling through distraction and relaxation phases and by proper positioning, a spinal disc can be isolated and placed under negative pressure, causing a vacuum effect within it.

How Does Spinal Decompression Work?

DTS Spinal Decompression provides relief to severe back and neck pain sufferers by gently reducing the pressure within spinal discs. The bones of the spine are slowly and methodically separated using the state-of-the-art DTS Spinal Decompression Unit. As the vertebrae are separated pressure is slowly reduced within the disc (intradiscal pressure) until a vacuum is formed. This vacuum "sucks" the gelatinous center of the disc back inside thereby reducing the disc bulge or disc herniation. Significant disc bulge reduction removes pressure off the spinal nerves and drastically reduces pain and disability. This "sucking" vacuum also pulls much-needed oxygen, nutrients and fluid into injured and degenerated discs allowing the healing to begin.

How Is Spinal Decompression Therapy Different From Regular Traction?

The award winning Triton® computer is the key. It controls the variations in the traction pull allowing for

spinal decompression and eliminating muscle guarding that is typical in conventional traction devices. The preprogrammed patterns for ramping up and down the amount of axial distraction allows for higher levels of spinal decompression and disc rehydration.

What Does It Feel Like? How Long Do The Sessions Last? When Will I Feel Better?

In almost all cases, the treatments are completely painless. In fact, some patients fall asleep during the spinal decompression session.

The number of sessions needed and your specific treatment plan will be determined by the doctor after your examination.

Therapy sessions typically last less than 20 minutes and most people feel pain relief with as few as 6-10 treatments. It is important to remember however, that pain subsiding does not infer that your discs and spine are healed, so it's critical that patients stick with the treatment protocol prescribed by their practitioners in order to achieve the full value of the DTS Therapy.

How Do I Know If DTS Is Right For Me?

DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy is a pain-free alternative that has shown a very high rate of success at reducing and eliminating back and neck pain althogether. Patients the world over are choosing DTS rather than risky and expensive surgery or other more invasive treatments and are experiencing significant results. DTS is great for acute pain or chronic pain and covers a variety of problems. If you suffer from chronic, debilitating low back or neck pain you owe it to yourself to call our office today to make an appointment to see if you're a candidate for the DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Are There Conditions Where Spinal Decompression Therapy Is Not Indicated?

While it's true that DTS covers an extremely wide range of ailments at varying levels of severity, there are some cases for which DTS is not indicated.

Spinal decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, patients who have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity or severe nerve damage.  Specific conditions which are contraindicated include vertebral fractures, spondylolisthesis (Grade 2 or higher, Grade 1 is fine), Spondylolsyis, unstable post surgical condition and patients who have had spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal plates or “cages”). However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion surgery, can be performed.

What Are Doctors Saying About Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy?

"There is a place for surgery, but definitely not at the front line.  Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy should be a front line treatment for chronic back pain patients suffering from bulging, herniated or degenerative disc disease, and facet syndrome.

As a surgeon, I only want to do surgery when I absolutely have to.  Spinal Decompression Therapy gives my patients a more conservative treatment option that can eliminate the need for surgery altogether, and that's a very good thing.

Spinal Decompression Therapy also gives me a treatment option for those patients who have had surgery and have had a relapse or exerperince a return of pain following surgery.  It allows me to offer patients a key, non-surgical weapon in the war on back pain."
